Hi Peter, hope you're well.
Just a quick progress report with regards to our ongoing planning dispute. After seeking further help from a number of gentlemen seemingly in the know (Steve Murty, Robert Halsted), we've been advised to stick to our initial plan and submit an application for a lawful certificate for existing use, along with all the testimonials kindly gathered up by your good self. We're hoping to submit the application today weather permitting (it's a bit bleak up here!!), at which point its out of our hands. We're feeling confident of a result after the recent consultations so we shall just have to wait and see!
I'd just like to say, on behalf of Ian and the rest of my family, how grateful we are for all the kind help yourself, Bradford Trails and it's riders have kindly donated to us. Without your help, we'd wouldn’t have had a hope and you've greatly increased our chances of success. We'd really appreciate it if you could pass on our extreme thanks to the rest of the committee and to all the riders who submitted a testimonial or signature. We hope to see them all riding up here freely, as they should be, once we receive the result. The application is truly in your debt.
With regards to the application fee, any kind donations from the club to help with the submission costs would also be greatly appreciated by the Boothman family, and we shall keep you posted on how the application unfolds. Fingers crossed!!
Kind Regards
Sam Boothman

The 91 guests sat down to a 3 course meal at The Silsden Golf Club. Comments recieved during the evening and after it seems it was a right good do. During the evening a raffle was held along with an auction on the goods supplied by friends of Bradford Club.
A donation of £225 was made to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
The club thanks Nathan, Jackie, Allison and Phil along with others for making the evening a success.
Next years date has been booked. Make a note in your diary 10th November, same venue.

The Presidents Trial
On a pleasant Saturday afternoon, thirty to forty participants gathered at the Bull's Head Pub, Wilpshire, to commence this annual social event.
Having won last year, Steve Shutt was the mastermind & "Clerk of Course", so for this year, he and friends had decided to conduct the event in deepest Lancashire. Leaving nothing to chance, passports, valid until midnight, were thoughtfully arranged for the visitors from Yorkshire. Just how long was the course going to be?
The nine teams who started were soon to find out. Over fifty questions and ten riddles were posed and in addition each team had to try and collect ten items of "Treasure" along the way. The main objective was to have an enjoyable day and finish safely at the designated pub, where pie & peas were laid on. So the fun & games began. Here are just a few observations.
To say Mandy & Co. were strong competitors just because they were propping up the results would be unfair because they were really classified DNF. This was a strange outcome because she was fast & in fact passed most of the other teams, often several times. Eventually, evidently deciding enough was enough, Mandy headed straight for the pub. Not sure about the motivation; hope it isn't time for pen lines on bottles of the good stuff there Richard!
The "Ayrton Four" were seen several times throughout the day, still smiling and in the future, with the girls a little older, Sue driving and Dad actually getting out of the car to help, they will surely be challenging for the win.
The "Lost Souls" were aptly named. Pressing on they passed the author four times. Unfortunately, on each occasion they were travelling in the wrong direction.
"The Taylors". Don't be fooled by the catchy name, this team meant business. Quite whether this business included the questions at hand was debatable.
The "Pride of Lancs" were not quite up the their billing. Better luck next year lads.
Mentioning no names, the team entitled "Four Idiots & Me" did well and finished just off the podium in 4 th place. Who the idiots were, remains an unanswered question. Will one more, or one less idiot make a difference next year? We will have to wait & see.
Now we get to the medal positions.
In "Bronze", the "Lords Above" were spot-
Easing into the "Silver Medal" position, with a typically slick performance were the "Bright Sparks". Now normally, one would think that Nathan " I'm not going back, have you seen the price of diesel" Wrigglesworth, plus two smart girls in a van would be a recipe for trouble, but it seems to work & I think I know why; teamwork.
Firstly there is Helen, the quiet one. I reckon she is the brains of the outfit, who together with the organised and highly efficient Jacquie, formulate a master-
Of course their strategy then has then to be translated so that a mere male can understand it, but Jacquie, after years of practice, quickly conveys this to Nathan and thereafter they progress well. However, they were not to triumph & in part this was because of an oversight, which I hesitate to mention in case they remedy the situation next year, but as none of Bright Sparks will ever read this report, I can safely inform the reader that their Achilles heel was a simple rookie mistake; with three quarters of the course successfully completed, they ran out of sweets. This was serious, it was tea time, Nathan was hungry, concentration wavered, pie & peas beckoned; one more Kit-
The Victors
The astute among you will have already worked out who the winners were, but for the benefit of the majority I can confirm that The Hopefuls, a.k.a. Messrs. Crosby & Jackson, claimed top spot in this prestigious event. This crack partnership, formed on the night before the event, was to work seamlessly on the day. Jackson, world famous in Silsden but little known in Lancashire, prepared well. After nearly five hours sleep and a busy Saturday morning he was almost ready & after putting thirty quid in his tank, before deciding that petrol would do a better job, he set off and slipped unnoticed (apart from the radar trap at Laneshawbridge) across the border to collect his team-
The game went well, with barely a hiccup, just the usual need to back-
An explanation was in order. "Country Code Enforcement Officers, Preston branch. Had a report of a stray bag. Can't be too careful you know. All part of the service!" Then, vrooom, the blighters were off again.
One tricky question required the search of a cemetery and at one point there were so many teams parked outside Samlesbury Church that the locals thought it must be Sunday. Philip was crafty here. After five minutes the question was duly answered, but did he immediately return to the car? No; he would spend a further ten minutes
(or as long as it took to smoke a roll-
The team sped on, questions were dealt with and the duo were soon on the final leg, then came the now infamous question "How many white sails?" Once found, the ship was quite an impressive focal point but what was the answer? From the bottom of the driveway old eyes squinted; "what do you reckon?" says Philip. "About 20" says Martin. "Sure?". "No". "Best check or Shutty will have us on this one". The intrepid Phil then scurries up the drive for a better look. He counts. He pauses. He counts again. He pauses, again. He is stood there for so long, the householder comes out with a cup of tea. This does the trick. He counts a final time & returns to the car. "Got it" says he. "22". "Sure?". "99%". "Near enough". Or is it?
A little later, they park up for a few minutes, answer the riddles & then realise that they have to take a detour just to complete the final question. This done they head for the pub, where tasty pie & peas were soon enjoyed.
After the meal it was time for the results and as is customary, a run through of the questions and answers preceded the announcement. The usual good-
However, the late Mr. Cook was the answer & not the actual chef, Anson Bolton. So, whilst Bolton was a cook and Mr. Cook was unlikely to have been a chef, Cook took the honour. Still with me? Now Steve was in charge and wasn't going to stand for any of this nonsense; "my answers are set in stone" he announces, before carrying on. So; with reference to the ship question, what answer was Steve looking for; 19. Really? Possibly! So if you are ever passing . . . . . . . never mind; it matters not, just don't be surprised if in certain quarters you happen to hear the chief organiser referred to as "Captain" from now on.
In conclusion.
The Traders Arms provided good food. Fellow competitors were, as usual, good company but above all our thanks go to Steve, sorry, "Captain" Shutt & his crew for putting on such an excellent and well run event for all to enjoy.
